We’re a family-owned masonry contracting company specializing in chimneys. We build them, and we repair them. Over the years, many hundreds of agents have called us to inspect, confirm, and very often, correct false chimney inspections, evaluations or estimates done by “self-appointed chimney experts”, many of whom demonstrate either a gross lack of technical competence -- or else just plain old dishonesty in their inspection and assessment of what needs to be done. This can result in an upset client and a blow-up of an otherwise certain sale, as you know. After doing more than 22,000 chimney inspections and many thousands of permitted chimney repairs, I am absolutely, positively convinced that all such inspections and repair estimates should be done by those with the proper and valid California State Contractor’s license (C-29 or B), years of chimney building and E.Q. repair experience, good judgment, and the integrity to report honestly - uninfluenced by buyer, seller, agent, or evaluations or inspections done by others. How would you feel if one of your commissions blew up in your face because of an alarming or utterly false inspection report on a perfectly safe and sound chimney? Not so good, I’m sure.
